All research
has a direct application towards improving the treatment of
patients with cancer. From the time it was founded in 1969,
the work of the CHRISTUS Stehlin Foundation has been unique in limiting
its investigations in the research laboratory to human cancers.
The research
laboratory employs a staff of 3 Ph.D.'s and 15 research technicians,
in addition to 4 clinic physicians who donate their time free
of charge. The Foundation support staff includes an Executive
Director and is governed by a Board of Trustees. Weekly education
meetings are held to discuss progress in clinical trials and
research projects.
A valuable
community service has been provided by the CHRISTUS Stehlin Foundation
for the past 21 years with its award-winning Educational Scholarship
Program. This program provides an opportunity for outstanding
high school and college students who want to pursue careers
in science or medicine to work in the research laboratory,
observe human surgery and make rounds with physicians.
