Desk of Dr. John Stehlin
Dear Friends,
Im excited to announce Raymond Khoury as
the new Chairman of the Board for the Stehlin Foundation.
Raymond is one of the finest and most gifted leaders I know.
I encourage you to support and help him as he guides our Foundation
board with wisdom,
experience and intelligence.
Raymond Khoury, our board members, and all the Friends are
looking forward to a year of change and growth at the Stehlin
Foundation.
An independent study has confirmed the effectiveness of our
anti-cancer drug, 9-Nitro Camptothecin (9-NC). The results
are printed in this edition of Hope, and include SuperGens
forward-looking plans to seek FDA approval for 9-NC this year.
Another generation of camptothecins is under development in
our laboratory. Dr.
Giovanella and the researchers are making tremendous progress
as they modify
camptothecins for increased anti-cancer activity in the human
body.
Winifred Lesandrini and Nancy Thompson are two women I want
you to meet. Several years ago, they were independently referred
to us for possible breast abnormalities. Dr. de Ipolyi discovered
breast cancers and scheduled immediate life-saving surgeries.
Winifred and Nancy remain cancer-free, three years later,
and have become a part of the Friends of the Stehlin Foundation.
The caption underneath the cover photo of Nancy and Dr. Giovanella
sums up so much of what were about Healing Friends
and Saving Lives. And the phrase healing friends
works two ways. First, we want to heal our friends. Second,
we believe the Friends of the Stehlin Foundation provide healing
to others.
In this issue, we list many of the ways the Friends provide
healing through fun activities, friendship, and raising money
for cancer research the Friends Gala, Susans
Rally, the Hot Sauce Festival, golf tournaments, bowling,
the Terry Fox Run, the Monte Carlo auction, and so much more.
You are an amazing group of Healing Friends.
Sincerely,
John S. Stehlin, Jr., M.D.
