Dr. Stehlin
Honored As A Millenium Maker
Dr. John
Stehlin was recognized as one of Houstons Millennium
Makers at the forefront of medical
breakthroughs that lead Houstons medical community into
the new millennium. Houstons Millennium
Makers is a book that features and profiles 74 outstanding
Houstonians.
Honorees
were selected based on local, national and international name
recognition, said Evin Thayer, who photographed honorees
and organized the first Houstons Millennium Makers Series.
Dr. Stehlin was selected for being the founder and scientific
director of the renowned Stehlin Foundation for Cancer Research.
The book
recognizes Dr. Stehlins contributions to the medical
community and discusses the Foundations approach, where
patients are treated as human beings rather than diseased
organisms. I am honored to be recognized as one of Houstons
Millennium Makers, said Dr. Stehlin. Arriving
in Houston as a young doctor in the late fifties, it was apparent
that the Bayou City was emerging as one of the premier medical
communities in the world, and I wanted to be a part of it.
Other
Millennium Makers include President George Bush, Senator Lloyd
Bentsen, Cynthia Cooper, Larry Dierker, Dr. Red Duke, Ninfa
Laurenzo, Jaclyn Smith, Marvin Zindler and many more. Proceeds
from the book benefit the Evin Thayer Scholarship Fund which
provides scholarships in the arts to students who attend Houston-area
institutions of higher learning. Houstons Millennium
Makers is available at the Evin Thayer Studios, located
at 2643 Colquitt. Online purchases can be made at www.evinthayer.com.
