From the Desk of Dr. John Stehlin
Dear Friends,
Thank you for all you are doing in the fight against cancer.
As the Stehlin Foundation embarks on its thirtieth year of
life, I am pausing to reflect on the successes we have seen,
and the goals stretching
ahead of us. Will you join me for a moment as I celebrate?
I am so proud of the accomplishments of the Stehlin Foundation
- which means I am proud of an amazing group of scientists,
researchers, doctors, patients, and supporters.
In this issue of Hope, youll read in-depth
information about the continued success of the clinical trials
of 9-NC, now licensed to SuperGen and called rubitecan.
SuperGen intends to file an application with the FDA for rubitecan.
Upon receipt of FDA approval, rubitecan will become available
for cancer patients all across the globe! A potent, prescribable
anti-cancer drug, birthed at the Stehlin Foundation. What
an exciting success story! And something weve been working
towards diligently for years.
I believe that part of the success of the lab has been that
the scientists and researchers have been given the freedom
to pursue ambitious goals. Their passion, intelligence, vitality,
talent, and humble collaboration is immeasurably valuable.
They are the Stehlin Foundation.
Another part of the success has been that the patients always
come first. Thats why the Foundation focuses exclusively
on applied science for human health and healing. Every decision
we make comes down to one thing: how will this help our patients?
The doctors and their patients are the Stehlin Foundation.
Yet another part of the success is the countless volunteers
and donors who have
kept the lights on, purchased the equipment, encouraged the
doctors and supported the patients. Thank you for dancing
at the gala, golfing, eating hot sauce, bowling, racing, laughing,
and giving. In giving of yourselves, you have become the energizing
force that keeps us all going.
You are the Stehlin Foundation.
Celebrating the Stehlin Foundations 30th year, I felt
a bit like the proud parent who can savor the accomplishments
of his grown
child. Although a parents job is never really done,
it is gratifying to see ones offspring taking its own
confident steps toward the future. Seeing so much hard work
beginning to come to fruition is the reward for our shared
HOPE.
I am grateful for each of you who have contributed to the
Stehlin Foundations past successes and I am eager for
the successes that await our next 30 years.
Thank you for making all of this possible.
Warm Regards,
John S. Stehlin, Jr., M.D.
