Strike Back Against Cancer

Chrisman, left, of Storm joined event founder Donna
Conners at this year’s PWBA Luci Bonneau Southwest
Mixed Doubles in Houston. |
More than 126 of the nation’s best pro bowlers competed
in the
Fourth Annual Luci Bonneau Memorial Southwest Professional
Women’s Bowling Association (PWBA) Mixed Doubles and
Pro-Am Tournament. More than $85,000 has been raised
through the event in loving memory of Luci Bonneau, a former
professional bowler and Stehlin patient.
Luci’s best friend and teammate Donna Conners founded
the annual bowling tournament held at Dynamic Lanes. Conners
presented this year’s donation for $25,000 to the
Stehlin Foundation for Cancer Research.
“Luci was a great competitor on the lanes and a classy
lady off the lanes,” said Conners. “It was a
terrible shock to all of us when she was diagnosed with
cancer. The doctors at the Stehlin Foundation, Dr. de Ipolyi
and Dr. Wallace, were wonderful to her and she thought the
world of them.”
Bonneau, a member of the Texas Women’s Bowling Hall
of Fame, went on to win six team titles, two doubles titles,
a singles title, and was crowned Bluebonnet Queen in 1985.
This event continues to grow and is the largest Pro-Am tournament
in the
southwest region of the PWBA. Conners and tournament underwriter
Storm Bowling Products, plan to take the tournament national.
“There are three reasons why this event is so successful,”
said Barbara Chrisman, co-owner of Storm Bowling Products.
“The first is that the Stehlin Foundation is a great
organization that is performing cutting-edge cancer research.
The second is that people remember the impact Luci had on
Texas bowling. The third reason is that Donna puts on a
great event.”
