The Stehlin
Foundation for Cancer Research was established
by surgical oncologist, Dr. John S. Stehlin, in
1969 with a specific and urgent mission: to find
and develop the most effective treatments for
the patient suffering from cancer today in the
shortest period of time
|
| Recognizing
the serious lack of communication between the scientist
studying the cancer in the laboratory and the physician
treating the patient at the bedside, the Stehlin
team developed the concept of a tripartnership
between clinician, research scientist, and patient,
in which everyone works together to provide the
best overall treatment. |
|
|
The
spirit of the Stehlin Foundation is captured
eloquently in its symbol. Here, the scientist,
the physician, and the patient fight shoulder
to shoulder in the cancer war. Neither is ever
isolated from the other. Inside this unique
commitment, which we call "tripartnership",
the intrinsic dignity of the patient remains
supreme.

 |
|
"Tripartnership",
a three-part
approach teaming the patient, the physician and the research
scientist in their shared fight against cancer, accomplishes
far more than the sum of its parts, opening new avenues of
hope for cancer patients and their families.
